The Quiraing unfolds along Skye's Trotternish Ridge like a landscape still mid-transformation—because in a sense, it is; this is one of the few places on Earth where the land continues to slip and shift each year, an ancient landslide forever settling into new shapes. Towering rock formations rise from the green hillside with names as strange as their forms: the Needle, a slender pinnacle stabbing skyward; the Prison, a a hulking mass that from certain angles resembles a fortress; and the Table, a flat plateau hidden within the formation, said to have once hosted cattle hidden there from raiders.
