The Sound of Raasay is the stretch of sea separating the Isle of Skye from the smaller island of Raasay, its often slate-grey or pewter waters framed by dramatic scenery on both shores—Skye's rugged coastline and the distinctive silhouette of Raasay's flat-topped hill, Dun Caan, rising across the strait; ferries ply the crossing between Sconser on Skye and Raasay village, while the sound itself, with its shifting light and passing weather, offers some of the finest views in the region, often glimpsed from vantage points like the Scorrybreac walk or the cliffs above Portree.
