The Old Head of Kinsale is a dramatic, diamond-shaped headland in County Cork, Ireland, jutting more than two miles out into the Atlantic Ocean on a narrow isthmus connecting it to the mainland. Its steep cliffs on all sides have made it both a scenic landmark and a treacherous stretch of coastline — most notably as the site closest to where the RMS Lusitania was torpedoed and sunk in 1915. Overlooking the headland is a distinctive black-and-white striped lighthouse, a working aid to navigation that has long warned ships away from the rocky point.
